Backlogs Band-aids Surface around Western Ports

GSC Logistics ∕ February

The Department of Transportation and the Department of Agriculture have designed a temporary solution for a large issue – equipment congestion. A pop-up shipping site in the Port of Oakland is now available for staging empty containers that are needed to support exports. For Pete Buttigieg, Secretary of Transportation, this short-term solution is, “effectively, a way to make sure more of these empty containers get filled with U.S. agricultural exports, instead of being sent right back to China with nothing in them at all.” Although this will not alleviate all of the backlog, we are experiencing in the supply chain, we can hope this provides some assistance to the ports drayage partners and shippers alike.
